Practicing Thanksgiving

15. Dancing to country music with the kiddos
16. First time baby laughs

The country music was playing and with one arm I was holding baby Tyler and with the other, I was twirling Ellie as we danced to the music.  We were smiling and laughing, when suddenly I heard a little sound from Tyler.  I looked down, took the pacifier out of his mouth and he was smiling back at me with that big open mouthed grin...and he laughed. Really?  Isn't he too young to laugh??

Well, then we started dancing again and I heard this little laugh, again, and again.  Yep, I'm the mom & I'm calling it.  It was a laugh. And it was absolutely adorable.  Ellie said, "Let me see, let me see," so here were were, all three of us laughing and enjoying the moment together.

Today, this is what I'm thankful for.  God has a way of sneaking these little moments into our days, filling our hearts with joy.  I want to make a practice of seeing them, recognizing them, and being thankful for them.  Not just this month, because of the holiday approaching, but every month, every day.  What a wonderful way to live...a life of thanksgiving.

I just recently read the book, "1000 Gifts," by Ann Voscamp.  I held out on reading the book because I wasn't sure I'd like her writing style.  Well, I actually loved it.  It was like a 240 page poem and I devoured it in three days.  It reminded me to take notice of the little things, to reflect, and to turn my thankfulness up to God.

"I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving." Psalm 69:30

Living a life of thanksgiving means being thankful, not only when things are easy, but when things are hard and when things don't go as planned.  I have a lot to learn about being thankful.  One of the things I learned from this book is that like so many things in life, being thankful is something that should be practiced. So, I started my own list of 1000 gifts.

  1. I have been eyeing the book 1000 gifts for quite some time now. I think it's time I got it (or added it to my Christmas list).

    Wishing you a lovely weekend!
    xoxo
